The ultimate front-row spectator post ideal for any locals (aged 16+) who are happy to be outside for a few hours. We extend a special invitation to local runners as we think you will really enjoy the spectacle - members of Forres Harriers, Nairn Road Runners, Moray Road Runners, Inverness Harriers, Highland Hill Runners and parkrunners please get in touch. The job involves standing (or you can bring a folding chair) on the course, close to an event check point to make sure it is not moved. We will be holding a short, local training sessions for control marshals in advance of the Championships.
We need around 50 control marshals on each day and will be organising shifts around the following times
Friday 31st July evening for Sprint Qualifier in Forres, report to Pilmuir School 14.00-15.00 and shift to about 20.00
Saturday 1st Aug: Team Relay in Nairn, report to Nairn Community Centre 14.00-15.00 shift to about 20.00
Sunday 2nd Aug: Sprint Final in Forres, report to Forres Footbal Pavilion 13.00-14.00 shift to about 20.00
Please register here and state which day(s) you are able to marshal.
We will be organising an Induction and Training session for local Sprint Control Marshals at Forres House Community Centre on the evening of Tuesday 28th July. This will be a chance for local marshals to collect uniforms and accreditation passes (rather than going to Inverness on Saturday 1st). Please put the date in your diary now and we look forward to meeting you there.
As a thank you, we will be inviting you to be a guest at a selection of beginner-friendly, sprint orienteering events:
- in Grantown on Saturday 5th September, organised by BASOC
- in Forres on Saturday 22nd August, organised by Morravian
- in the Inverness area, date to be confirmed, organised by INVOC
The purpose of providing a model event is to enable elite athletes to familiarise themselves with similar terrain and mapping. We already have a team leader. We are recruiting another 2-3 people to help greet athletes and guide them into parking. You might need to answer questions and possibly manage a road crossing and remind athletes of embargoes. The courses will have been planned by the technical team and maps and equipment will be provided. This is a chance to meet elite athletes and play a small, but manageable, part in delivering our World Championships.
